TARP. Bailouts. Government Motors. When and where will all this socialism end?
Yes, yes, there were reasons, citied by Democrats and Republicans, for the unconstitutional actions of the Feds. They were going to save us from economic Armageddon, or financial terrors yet unimagined, or credit card late fees, or something. Due to their heroism, the federal debt has expanded dramatically, Washington owns massive chunks of Wall Street, the rescued companies are still unprofitable, and pizza delivery across the nation has remained stable.
Gone are the worries of the "moral hazards" and "reverse incentives" involved in government ownership. Gone are the concerns that legitmate business is replaced with lobbying and bribery when politicans control companies. This all had to happen. This was for our own good. (And the fact that our kids have to pay dearly for it - well, we'll worry about that later.)
And that's only the beginning, we are told. Next its health care. And then what, food? Real estate? Gasoline? Pet stores? You can bet your bottom dollar that's the direction we're headed - government control of the means of production and distribution - of every "essential" industry. At your expense. You'll end up with fewer choices, less quality, less customer satisfaction, fewer opportunities for success, higher prices and higher taxes. (When I suggest you'd have to bet your bottom dollar, I mean it. It might be all you have left.) Government control of business. Government control of your life. All in the name of "saving" us from imminent disaster.
We are smarter than that, Mr. President. Give us a little credit. We've read the 10th Amendment. You and the Congress are violating our rights as American citizens by overstepping the obvious Constitutional boundaries set up by our founders.
I like what Senator Thune of South Dakota is presenting. He has a plan to hand the power back to the people by selling the government shares of these companies back to you and I, the private sector. His plan would reverse the dangerous trend and return the government to its intended purpose - to govern us, rather than own us. It's worth a look, and, as far as I'm concerned, its worth your signature.
